The reunion we looked forward to all year is finally tonight! While children and grandchildren returning home from afar will all gather together, dinner must be prepared however tiring it is. As long as the whole family can enjoy the reunion dinner together and talk about family life, all the toil is worth it. Although this work is titled “Reunion Dinner”, it is different from similar works featuring the family dining scene we are accustomed. Instead, the artist depicts the dinner preparation scene.
The scene of an old lady cooking by herself in this work is presented with skillful and smooth contouring and warm and unexaggerated coloring to create a watching experience that weaves expectation and mild sadness.
