桃園市立美術館於2020年創設「橫山獎」，首先舉辦的是「書藝研究與評論獎」，希望能以「研究獎」與「評論獎」促進書藝研究與評論的發展。2021年繼而開辦「橫山書藝獎」，獎勵書法藝術展覽與書藝創作實踐，盼能鼓勵並發掘具時代性與開拓性的書藝展覽。

The Taoyuan Museum of Fine Arts (TMoFA) establishes the Hengshan Awards for Calligraphy Research and Criticism (Hengshan Awards) to facilitate calligraphy discussion and development. It aims to discover and cultivate talented calligraphy researchers and critiques to conduct research and criticism on contemporary calligraphy, focusing on its locality and internationality, tradition and innovation, and theory and practice.
TMoFA also founded Hengshan Calligraphy Award to promote calligraphy exhibitions and creations that are of the zeitgeist and pioneering perspectives in various forms and contents. The awardee will be invited to organize a new exhibition in the Hengshan Calligraphy Art Center.

Hengshan Awards

The 2023 Hengshan Calligraphy Award is an award in Taiwan that focuses on calligraphy art exhibition as a competition, rewarding calligraphy art exhibitions that hold significant historical importance, embody the spirit of the times, and demonstrate an exploratory perspective with an international outlook. The Calligraphy Award follows a public nomination system, and nominations for outstanding calligraphy exhibitions held since 2020 are now open until November 30, 2023.
The winner will be invited to curate a new exhibition at the Hengshan Calligraphy Art Center, with the organizer providing a maximum exhibition production budget of two million New Taiwan dollars.
The 2023 Hengshan Calligraphy Award adopts online submission. Qualified calligraphy art exhibitions are those held between January 1, 2020, and the submission deadline, and individuals who hold Taiwanese nationality, foreigners with valid residency permits in Taiwan, or organizations officially registered and recognized by the Republic of China (Taiwan) for cultural and artistic activities are eligible to submit nominations.
Nominators can be individuals who hold Taiwanese nationality, foreigners with valid residency permits in Taiwan, or organizations officially registered and recognized by the Republic of China (Taiwan) for cultural and artistic activities. Nominators shall not participate in the exhibitions they nominate.
The submission deadline is at 5 p.m. on November 30, 2023 (Taiwan Time).
The Hengshan Awards are crucial competitions promoted by the Taoyuan Museum of Fine Arts to advance calligraphy art exhibitions, research, and criticism in Taiwan. Among them, the Calligraphy Research Award rewards research in calligraphy art, the Calligraphy Criticism Award strives to establish a culture of calligraphy art criticism, and the Calligraphy Award encourages outstanding calligraphy art exhibitions. These three awards rotate within three years.

橫山書法藝術館（以下簡稱書藝館）之「橫山書藝獎」（以下簡稱書藝獎）為國內首創以「書法藝術展覽」為競賽之獎項，獎勵具書法史重要意義、富時代精神及國際視野之開拓性觀點的書法藝術展覽。2023橫山書藝獎為擴大書法藝術策展效應，轉型為公開全提名制，即日起至2023年11月30日止，開放由國內各界提名自2020年以來優秀之書藝展覽。獲選展覽將獲邀至橫山書法藝術館策劃新展，並由主辦單位支付最高新臺幣兩百萬元展覽製作經費。
「橫山獎」為桃園市立美術館推動臺灣書法藝術展覽、研究及評論之重要獎賽。其中「橫山書藝研究獎」獎勵書法藝術的研究成果，「橫山書藝評論獎」致力建立書法藝術的評論風氣，「橫山書藝獎」則鼓勵卓越的書法藝術展覽，三個獎項分年輪辦。今年橫山書藝獎以開放各界提名的方式進行，並提高獲獎展覽策劃新展的展覽經費，希望能藉此鼓勵優良的書法藝術策展，豎立書法史發展的標竿，刺激書法藝術展覽的時代精神，並拓展書法藝術的國際視野。
本活動採全線上提名投件，凡中華民國國人、在臺居留之外籍人士，或登記立案之文化團體，自2020年起至收件截止日期間舉辦以書法藝術為主的展覽，均可被提名。提名人資格亦包含國人、在臺居留之外國人士及立案團體，惟提名人不得提名自身參與之展覽。開放提名日期自即日起至2023年11月30日止。

2023橫山書藝獎

To facilitate discourse, research, and critical examination of the art of calligraphy, the Taoyuan Museum of Fine Arts (TMoFA) commenced the acceptance of submissions for the 2022 Hengshan Awards: Biennial Awards for Calligraphy Research and Criticism (the Hengshan Awards). The award ceremony was held at the Hengshan Calligraphy Art Center (HCAC) on July 1. On behalf of the panel of judges, Professor Kanno Chiaki of the Department of Art, University of Tsukuba, Japan, was invited to give a speech. The awards were presented by Director Chiu Cheng-sheng of the Department of Cultural Affairs, Taoyuan and the international judging panel. Symposiums were also held on the event day, providing in-depth analysis and discussions on the winning research papers and art criticism, delving into contemporary perspectives on calligraphy research and criticism. The winning articles have been published in the paper compilation for this year's event. Additionally, to further incentivize calligraphy research, shortlisted works were also included in the compilation.
For this year's Hengshan Awards, a judging panel consisting of 10 experts and art critics from Japan, the US, China, and Taiwan meticulously selected the winners through two rounds of judging. The panel recognized six standout articles among the submissions. One notable achievement is Mai Ching-yueh's “Revealing the Secret Improvement Process of Yu Youren's Standard Cursive Script and Distinguishing True and False on the Special Editions”, which claimed first place in the Calligraphy Research category.
Additionally, three other papers received the Merit Award: “A Study on The Research and Application of Calligraphers' on Ancient ‘Folk Calligraphy’ in the Late Qing and Early Republic Eras - Shen Zengzhi as Example” by Chiang Ya-hui, “Research on the Origin and Development of Cursive Configuration in Sun Guoh-Tyng's Shu Pu” by Chang Li-lien, and “A Preliminary Study on Using the Optical 3D Scanning Technology to Simulate Traditional Stone Tablet Inscriptions Rubbings and to Restore the Damaged Characters: Taking the Fu Kang An Ji Gong Monument in Chiayi City as an Example” by Chung Yueh-lung.
In the Calligraphy Criticism category, two articles were awarded the Merit Award “The Continuing Intention - From the Debate between Tradition and Modernity to the Creation of Cursive Script” by Lee Tsui-ying and “The Crisscrossing of Contemporary Calligraphy - a Review of Developments and Possibilities” by Fung Yee-lick Eric. The submissions covered a wide range of topics, spanning from ancient to contemporary calligraphy, thereby showcasing remarkable diversity in perspectives and the profoundness of contemporary calligraphy research and criticism.
Chiu Cheng-sheng, Director of Taoyuan's Department of Cultural Affairs emphasized that TMoFA operates on the foundation of combining localization and internationalization. The Hengshan Awards serve to both cultivate local culture and expand international connections, with the goal of becoming an iconic calligraphy award in East Asia. The Hengshan Awards have become a significant annual event for TMoFA and the calligraphy community. The Department of Cultural Affairs remains committed to promoting diverse activities that foster local and international connections.
TMoFA founded the Hengshan Awards in 2020, and the two editions of the awards have generated remarkable research papers. The establishment of these awards and the publication of paper compilations are anticipated to ignite greater interest in historical research and art criticism of calligraphy, leading to further breakthroughs in calligraphy research and criticism in Taiwan and even on an international level.

2022 Hengshan Awards (Research and Criticism)

The Hengshan Calligraphy Award is the first award in Taiwan that competes through the form of calligraphy art exhibitions. It aims to encourage calligraphy art exhibitions and calligraphy creative practices that embody the spirit of the times, possess an exploratory perspective, address contemporary issues, and explore various forms and contents.
The 2021 Hengshan Calligraphy Award had a total of 44 exhibitions competing for the awards, and 7 cases were selected for the shortlist. After enthusiastic discussions by the judging panel, a champion and two merit awards were ultimately selected. The champion of the 2021 Hengshan Calligraphy Award is "Time's Shifting Without Era Disease: Post-Calligraphy by Ko Liang-chih," receiving a prize of 250,000 New Taiwan dollars. The merit awards go to "Number Concept: Chiang Po-hsuan Calligraphy Art Creation" and "'En Route to the Classics' – A Calligraphy Exhibition: Tradition and Innovation," each receiving a prize of 100,000 New Taiwan dollars. The champion will also be invited to hold an exhibition at the Hengshan Calligraphy Art Center (HCAC).
Liu Chun-lan, Director of the Taoyuan Museum of Fine Arts (TMoFA), indicates that the HCAC aims to establish a foundation for calligraphy research and education, shape local artistic and cultural characteristics, and promote international calligraphy exchanges. In 2020, the TMoFA established "The Hengshan Awards," which include awards for research, criticism, and exhibition. In 2020, the "Hengshan Awards for Calligraphy Research and Criticism" was first held to promote the development of calligraphy research and criticism. In 2021, "The Hengshan Calligraphy Award" was launched to promote the development of contemporary calligraphy art in Taiwan and respond to contemporary trends. It aims to explore innovative and experimental dimensions of calligraphy art while showcasing the diverse development context and multiple expressions within contemporary calligraphy art.
The jury recognizes "Time's Shifting Without Era Disease" for its innovative approach to the calligraphy exhibition. The exhibition incorporates new technology and introduces elements of modern daily life into classical calligraphy, proposing new methods for reconstructing calligraphy art. This ambition aligns closely with the goals of the award.
Furthermore, the Merit Award is given to "Number Concept: Chiang Po-hsuan Calligraphy Art Creation" and "'En Route to the Classics' – A Calligraphy Exhibition: Tradition and Innovation." Both exhibitions demonstrate solid training in classical calligraphy, reflect on modern issues, and embrace collective creation.
The goal of the Hengshan Calligraphy Award is to inspire creators and curators in the field of calligraphy art to explore the various possibilities of calligraphy art in contemporary times with a more diverse and open vision. The 2021 Hengshan Calligraphy Award hopes to serve as a starting point for contemporary calligraphy curation, and through the participation of more creators and exhibition curators in the future, collectively promote the development and continuation of calligraphy art.

桃園市立美術館（以下簡稱桃美館）為培植和發掘書藝研究與評論人才，針對當代書藝之在地與國際、傳統與創新、理論與實踐等面向進行研究與評論，特別設立橫山書法藝術館「書藝研究與評論雙年獎」。為推動書法藝術討論風氣與研究、評論發展，桃美館於2022年辦理第二屆「橫山獎：書藝研究及評論雙年獎」（以下簡稱「橫山獎」）徵件，自2022年9月15日至2022年9月30日止。&nbsp;
橫山獎徵件分為兩類，一為研究論文，二為藝術評論，徵求三年內撰寫之未曾正式發表、未曾獲獎補助之文章，一人可同時參加兩類。歡迎對書法藝術關注之民眾和研究者一起參與，更期待不分國籍、居住地、年齡之參與者共同投入，激盪出書藝研究與評論的豐富面貌。研究論文最高獎金15萬元，優選獎金3萬元；藝術評論最高獎金10萬元，優選可獲2萬元。獲獎論文及評論除將在頒獎典禮表揚，投稿內容將集結成冊於橫山書法藝術館發表出版。&nbsp;
本次「橫山獎」邀請來自日本、美國、中國和臺灣共10位專家學者及藝評人組成評審團，其中「研究論文」類邀請知名書法學者朱惠良教授、國立故宮博物院何炎泉研究員、美國布蘭戴斯大學阮圓（Aida Yuen Wong）教授、日本筑波大學菅野智明（KANNO Chiaki）教授、國立成功大學蕭瓊瑞教授（依姓氏筆畫順序排列）擔任評審；「藝術評論」類則由東海大學李思賢副教授、藝評人高千惠教授、中國藝術研究院陳忠康博士、日本奈良教育大學萱紀子（KAYA Noriko）教授、華梵大學熊宜敬教授（依姓氏筆畫順序排列）擔任評審。&nbsp;
經過兩階段評選出得獎者，共6篇得獎文章脫穎而出，並於2023年7月1日上午於橫山書法藝術館舉辦頒獎典禮。現場特別邀請日本國立大學法人筑波大學菅野智明教授代表評審團致詞，並由桃園市文化局邱正生局長及國際評審團頒發獎項。活動當天同時舉辦兩場次評審座談會，針對「研究論文」及「藝術評論」得獎文章進行深入解析及對談，探討書法藝術研究與評論的當代視野。得獎文章皆收錄於本次出版之論文集，為鼓勵書法藝術研究之風氣，今年亦特別收錄選登優秀投稿作品，讓研究成果得以累積。&nbsp;
其中由桃園市文化局邱正生局長頒發最大獎「橫山研究獎」，首獎獎金新臺幣15萬元，由麥青龠〈于右任標準草書改良進程揭密與特殊版本．真偽釋疑〉獲獎；優選獎3篇則由江雅慧〈清末民初書家對古代「民間書法」之研究與應用— 以沈曾植為例〉、張麗蓮〈孫過庭書譜草書形構字源析探〉以及鍾岳龍〈以光學3D掃描模擬中國書法傳統拓碑技術及泐損字復原研究初探—以嘉義市福康安紀功碑為例〉獲獎。「藝術評論類」則評選出優選獎2篇：李翠瑛〈持續的意圖—從傳統與現代辯證到草書的創作思考〉及馮以力〈當代書法藝術的縱橫錯步—對各種發展進路之反思與商榷〉。本屆投件之研究及評論文章範圍橫跨古今，關注議題亦多樣分呈，皆展現當前書藝研究和藝術評論的多元視角及深度。&nbsp;
桃園市立美術館結合在地化和國際化的營運基調，「橫山獎」同時具備深化在地文化與拓展國際連結的獎賽特性，以作為東亞指標性書法藝術獎賽為目標。經過兩屆精彩文章的耕耘成果，期待透過本獎的設立及論文集的出版，能激盪出書法史研究與藝術評論的亮麗火花，進一步深化臺灣乃至於國際書法藝術研究及論述。

2022書藝研究與評論雙年獎

橫山書法藝術館（以下簡稱書藝館）之「橫山書藝獎」（以下簡稱書藝獎）為國內首創以書法藝術展覽形式來競逐的獎項，希望藉此鼓勵富有時代精神，具開拓性觀點、議題、形式、內容之書法藝術展覽及書藝創作實踐。本屆書藝獎共有44案展覽競逐獎項，並從中遴選7案入圍。經評審團熱烈討論，最終評選出「書藝獎」1案及優選2案。首屆書藝獎得獎展覽「今不同弊：柯良志後書寫創作發表」，獲頒獎金新臺幣25萬元；優選獎得獎展覽共計2案，分別為「數字說：江柏萱書藝創作展」及「經典道上：傳統與創新書法展」，各獲頒獎金新臺幣10萬元。「書藝獎」得獎者除獲頒獎金，並將受邀於橫山書法藝術館舉辦展覽。
桃園市立美術館劉俊蘭館長表示，橫山書法藝術館以奠基書法研究與教育、形塑在地藝文特色、促進國際書藝交流為目標，桃美館於2020年創設「橫山獎」，為研究／評論、創作／展覽雙軌並進的獎項。2020年首先舉辦「橫山書法藝術館書藝研究與評論雙年獎」，希望能以「橫山研究獎」與「橫山評論獎」促進書藝研究與評論的發展；2021年繼而開辦「橫山書藝獎」，推動臺灣當代書法藝術發展並回應時代趨勢，除開發書藝創新與實驗的向度，更展現當代書法藝術中多向的發展脈絡與多元表現。
評審團指出：『今不同弊：柯良志後書寫創作發表』展現了對書法藝術在當代的開創發想。展覽企圖透過書寫狀態的探究、幽默嘲諷的借鏡、VR與觀看視野的探索及大眾書寫的開拓，反思當代藝術與書法的關係。此展針對書藝在當代展覽空間的表現上亦有出色的規劃。在書法藝術演變和轉換中，柯良志提出具體的展覽操作手法，並結合日常生活的體驗，例如運用Google Map結合QR Code掃描，連結到在地現場的大眾書寫。另一方面，面對書法藝術發展的當代挑戰，柯良志在展覽策劃中也就古典書法拆解的議題，提出了重構的嘗試。例如透過〈蘭亭序〉中「流觴曲水」的反覆臨寫，讓民眾既參與古典書法的臨習，同時體會碑帖在歷史流傳和翻刻將面臨不斷失真的危機。
優選的獲獎展覽「數字說：江柏萱書藝創作展」藉由古典書法的扎實基礎來表現趣味性的當代議題，且在內容上觸及了當代社會的不同層面，刺激觀眾思考古典書法在當代的新可能。「經典道上：傳統與創新書法展」則對於書法經典進行回顧，並在書法的集體創作上有所觀照。由於這兩檔展覽亦著重古典書法在當代的新發展，因此評審也給予極高的評價。
橫山書藝獎期待能夠激勵書法藝術的創作者以及展覽策劃人，以更多元而開放的視野及格局，來探索書法藝術在當代的各種可能。本屆書藝獎希望能作為一個書藝當代策展的起點，透過未來更多創作者與展覽策劃人的參與，共同推動書法藝術的發展及延續。

為培植和發掘書藝研究與評論人才，針對當代書藝之在地與國際、傳統與創新、理論與實踐等面向進行研究與評論，桃園市立美術館設立第一屆橫山書法藝術館「書藝研究與評論雙年獎」（簡稱橫山獎），以促進書藝討論與發展。
桃園市立美術館邀請國內外學者專家擔任評審委員，本屆「橫山獎」徵件類別分為「研究論文」類與「藝術評論」類，研究論文須以書法藝術為研究主題，檢附中英文摘要各500字。藝術評論以書藝概念、作品、展覽或現象等方面論述撰寫。
藉由「橫山獎」的推動，讓臺灣書法的研究更趨完備，期使橫山書法藝術館成為亞洲書法藝術交流的平台。橫山獎徵件時間為109年7月1日(星期三)起至8月31日(星期一)止，不限年齡、國籍及居住地，凡對書藝有興趣者皆可參加。
