Following the positioning and benchmark characteristics of the establishment of the museum, the collection of the museum focuses on modern and contemporary art, starting from the "geographical" foundation and focus, and looking at the "international" vision, looking at the development of Taoyuan and even Taiwan's art, and creating a dialogue with the international art scene According to the platform, we can systematically view and continue to expand the contents of our collection. The existing collections of Taomei Museum are mainly transferred from the original collections of the Visual Arts Department of the Cultural Bureau of Taoyuan City. The museum’s future collection goals have three.
1. Calligraphy Art Research: Enriching the Hengshan Calligraphy Art Center's Collection to Create a Calligraphy Hub in Asia
Administered by the Major Museum, the mission of HCAC is to preserve, research, develop, and promote the art of calligraphy in Taiwan. TMoFA has been growing its calligraphy collection to enable the art form to take even deeper roots in Taoyuan and Taiwan, while allowing calligraphy to shine in the art world as a vibrant and distinct art form.
2. Taoyuan Art Memories: Creating a Regionally-based and Strategically-acquired Collection
One of the collection policies is to study the modern and contemporary art history in Taiwan and the development of art in Taoyuan in order to acquire works of important artists that are missing from its existing collection. Based on the development of art in Taoyuan, this project has been building a regionally-based art collection that bears witness to the development of art in the city and local history. Important items in the collection include artworks that originated from Taoyuan, relating to Taoyuan, or having influenced Taoyuan.
3. International Dialogues: Expanding the Geographical Reach While Adopting a Global Perspective
TMoFA is an art museum situated at the geographic gateway to Taiwan. To expand the scope of its collection, TMoFA has focused on the research of local art history while facilitating lateral dialogues between Taoyuan, Taiwan, and the world. As a result, the third project, International Dialogues, aims to acquire artworks that fulfill the criterion of creating "local connections as well as international dialogues." In other words, we seeks to acquire important works that are cross-regional and international in the scope.
