Lofty Sunny
Artwork Analysis
"Lofty Sunny" by Chen Tsung-Chen (1948-2020), a contemporary ink painting painter; Inscription: "Sunnier in the Distant Mountains. Chen Tsung-Chen, Man of the Countryside, Taoyuan, Summer, Year of Ren Shen (1992)." Name seal: "Man of the Countryside" (relief), "Chen Tsung-Chen seal" (relief). This work has a vertical rectangular composition and a perspective view, depicting the misty, blurred, warm, and sunny scenery of mountains and forests. A mighty prominent peak sits in the middle ground to the right of the scene, extending so high that the peak is invisible, accompanied by houses sitting on the hillside, rendering an appealing scene. To the left are narrow waterfalls and secluded gullies, through which the distant mountains surrounding the prominent peak are visible; clouds and fogs engulf the valley, making visible the babbling mountain creeks and waterfalls. The painter used wet centered-tip stroke to dot the painting, applied blotting, brushing, and layer after layer of dyeing techniques, and sprinkled in some blue pigments, resulting in a pine forest full of bright ink painting, expressing the vigor and lush green trees of the mountain forest. The spring waterfall is dyed with light wet color, and the clouds are left blank or dyed with light wet color, to reflect the sunny scenery and accentuate the leisure and rare beauty of living a secluded life in a mountain forest, rendering a bright and beautiful resonance.
