10.《人生難得無虛過也》 Life is precious; let it not be spent in vain.

Transcript
Yi Chun’s motto, “Life is precious; let it not be spent in vain” (人生難得,無虛過也), speaks not only to cherishing life, but also to living with awareness, not letting time slip by, and realizing the full value of one’s life.
In calligraphy, every stroke is as precious as life itself; you can’t redo it. The traces left by the brush unfold in time, with each variation in the act of writing preserved within the ink. This understanding is vividly reflected in the present work.
The intense fluctuations in the brushwork echo the uneven course of life. In the two characters for “life” (人生), one is heavy, and the other is light, as life can vary between the two. The brushwork, shaped by the interplay of sparseness and solidity, moves from “precious” (難得) to “let it not be spent in vain” (無虛過也), unfolding as a moment of clarity. The strokes transition from restraint to a more translucent lightness, suggesting that while life should not be wasted, it is best lived with moderation and composure. The overall composition is expansive yet grounded, rhythmic yet unforced, substantial without heaviness. It concludes with free, crisp brushstrokes, revealing an open, calm attitude toward life.
