05.《熟成》 Aging

Transcript
“Aging (熟成)” describes a quiet transformation that occurs over time under steady conditions. Through this process, the flavor of food deepens, gaining layers and a lingering aftertaste.
Yi Chun is drawn to this idea. Unlike procrastination, which often leads to haste, aging gives “slowness” a sense of direction. Reversing the term, “maturity (成熟)” suggests a confidence shaped and calibrated by time. It is the state in which one becomes willing to slow down, reflect, and act without being driven by the ticking clock.
Calligraphy is much like that, too. When we feel restless or hurried, all we can do is bring something to completion. But that is not the same as letting it grow. So sometimes Yi Chun chooses not to force the work at all, and simply lets time slowly ripen it. Each dot and each stroke carries the trace of passing time, building up through a quiet process of maturing that happens almost unseen.
In this work, the composition stretches horizontally from a low center of gravity. The four dots of the fire (火) radical in shu (熟) create a subtle rhythm, guiding the eye to the right. Both characters flow with an ebb and continuity, each stroke reflecting the time it takes for “Aging” to emerge.
