12.Li Min-yong, Holding Hands

Transcript
This work by the Taiwanese poet and calligrapher Li Min-yong recalls the 2004 “Hand-in-Hand for Taiwan” movement.
At that time, about one million people joined hands to form a human chain stretching more than 500 kilometers from north to south — a powerful symbol of unity in a democratic society.
In his poem, Li writes of “you and I” standing on wounded ground, a gentle image of healing the scars left by colonial rule and the White Terror.
The calligraphy flows with lively rhythm and graceful energy. Every brushstroke feels like a heartbeat — part of a shared, collective gesture.
Li Min-yong once said, “Calligraphy is the wings of words.” In this work, the written line really does seem to take flight, turning poetry into movement, and movement into hope.
