This work draws from the memoirs of the priest Nobuaki Kozaki, a survivor of the Nagasaki atomic bombing. In his writings, he reflects on the unimaginable horror of nuclear weapons—an experience only those who lived through it can truly understand. Nuclear arms have taken countless lives—parents, children, and loved ones alike—with no one spared. To prevent such tragedies from happening again, he urges the world to continue advocating for the abolition of nuclear weapons. True peace, he emphasizes, can only be achieved when all nations unite to eliminate these weapons entirely, allowing survivors to pass on in peace.
Ro Boku begins the piece with bold strokes of black ink as the background, then layers white pigment over it to inscribe the text. The stark contrast between black and white creates a powerful visual impact. His expressive brushwork and the rich tonal variations of ink reveal a deep emotional intensity, conveying both his profound respect for atomic bomb survivors and his earnest longing for world peace.
