- This work draws from the meaning of the phrase “撥亂反正,” which refers to restoring order and returning to the right path. Ro Boku uses bold brushstrokes and dense ink on soft xuan paper, allowing the ink to spread and splatter across a surface that is uneven in tone and even torn in places. These intentional effects generate a powerful sense of movement and tension.
What’s particularly noteworthy is that this piece has been deliberately cropped, preserving only a portion of the area surrounding the character 「正」 (order or rightness). By doing so, Ro Boku opens up a vast space for interpretation and imagination.
Take a moment to observe closely—what you see might be just a single stroke or part of a larger form. Could it be the horizontal line at the top? The vertical stem in the middle? Or perhaps a corner of the enclosing frame? This fragmented presentation invites viewers to engage more deeply, contemplating not just the aesthetics of calligraphy but the symbolic act of reconstructing meaning from what remains.
