Wonderful Couplet Improvised by Professor Tseng Yong Yi at Sizhi Lake
Transcript
This artwork was created during a China-Taiwan cultural exchange event in 2006. During the event, Chu Chen Nan visited Sizhi Lake with a group of artists and scholars. Inspired by the beautiful scenery, he was invited to write calligraphy on the spot. He quickly transformed the peaceful lakeside atmosphere into text, creating this couplet in running script. The brushstrokes in this piece are smooth yet powerful, arranged in a balanced, alternating layout. More than just words on paper, this work captures Chu’s feelings in that moment, showing how calligraphy can bring nature and emotions together. As you observe this piece, imagine the scene by the lake—the flowing water, the fresh air, and the energy of the moment—all expressed through the movement of the brush.
