The Heart of Prajna Paramita Sutra

Transcript
At the heart of this exhibition lies the concept of “the Moment”—an idea deeply rooted in a cherished saying of Chu Chen Nan’s mother:
"Do everything early in life, except for dying."
These simple yet profound words became a guiding principle, shaping not only Chu’s artistic journey but also his dedication to philanthropy.
In 1996, following his mother’s passing, Ch u sought solace in calligraphy. Keeping vigil in her memory, he painstakingly transcribed the Heart Sutra, a sacred Buddhist text, as an offering of peace for her soul. His deep, abiding love was channeled through each stroke of his brush, transforming grief into an intimate act of devotion.
Rendered in a free-flowing cursive script, this work reflects both his mastery of the sutra’s meaning and the profound serenity he sought in its recitation. The elegant characters, imbued with warmth from the ink’s delicate tones, resonate with a quiet yet enduring beauty. The steady rhythm of each stroke and the harmonious spacing between the lines evoke a sense of order, balance, and contemplation.
As you stand before this piece, take a moment to absorb its essence—not just as a work of calligraphy, but as a testament to love, remembrance, and the timeless nature of a mother’s wisdom.
