Song of the Airport

Transcript
If you have ever walked along the Departures corridor of Terminal 1 at Taoyuan International Airport, this artwork may feel familiar. In 2023, Chu Chen Nan collaborated with renowned lyricist Vincent Fang and singer Lala Hsu to create Song of the Airport: On the Journey—a work that transforms calligraphy into a lyrical and rhythmic visual experience.
With expressive cursive script, Chu’s brushwork flows effortlessly across the surface, carrying a cadence all its own. More than just an artistic creation, this piece serves as a cultural gateway, offering words of blessing and anticipation to every traveler passing through.
At the airport, this work was presented using metal panels and lighting, infusing modern elements into traditional calligraphy. Here, in its original ink-on-paper form, you can observe the pure essence of Chu’s artistry—his dynamic strokes and the rhythmic movement of each line.
The exhibition space has been designed to evoke a sense of water’s embrace—a symbolic gesture of fluidity and continuity. Soft, spotted lighting mirrors the gentle flicker of floating water lanterns, carrying blessings and cherished memories forward, much like the sentiments embodied in this calligraphy.
Take a moment to immerse yourself in the rhythm of the brushstrokes. Whether at the airport or here in the gallery, this work is a reminder that every journey—whether in ink or in life—flows onward, carrying the echoes of tradition and the promise of new beginnings.
