- There are similarities and differences between the Korean term Seoye and its English translation, calligraphy. One key difference is in the approach to materials and tools. While both use brushes, calligraphy does not strictly limit the tools and materials. Anything available in nature or surroundings can be used. This transforms Korean characters into visual images rather than just text. Therefore, the characters are meant to be seen, not just read. Lee Sang-hyun conveys messages through this visual interpretation of Korean characters, turning them into powerful visual art.
