The four seasons—spring, summer, autumn, and winter—are nature’s gift, shaping biodiversity and driving the cycles that sustain life on Earth.
But with the intensifying effects of climate change, are the boundaries between the seasons becoming increasingly blurred? This exhibition begins with that very question, inviting you to explore whether the disappearing autumn is merely an illusion, a sensory experience, or an undeniable climate reality.
“Once Upon a WonderFALL Time,” the selected exhibition of the 3rd Taoyuan Children’s Art Center Call for Curatorial Proposals, employs “immersive experiences” and “object theater” as its two main approaches. The original scenographic design guides visitors through the cultural landscapes of Taiwan’s eastern coastline across the four seasons, while narrative objects encourage children to engage with nature through movement. The exhibition space features a large storybook as a stage, inviting children to “step into” the theater. To align with local experiences in Taoyuan, the curatorial team focuses on the cultural landscape of irrigation ponds, presenting three time-space perspectives on Taoyuan’s irrigation ponds and creating an interactive installation, “Co-Creating Irrigation Ponds,” within the exhibition space.
The exhibition creates a theatrical sensory experience, incorporating perspectives from contemporary dance, Indigenous culture, and children’s theater. Through various forms of immersive participation theatrical things, it explores the richness of seasonal changes and fosters awareness of extreme climate conditions among audiences of all ages.
