About the 2024 Taoyuan Fine Arts Exhibition

The Taoyuan Fine Arts Exhibition is a long-standing and distinctive art competition that has played a significant role in Taoyuan’s artistic development. It not only maintains a diverse range of artistic mediums and categories but also brings contemporary media considerations into this historically rich exhibition. Since 2020, the Taoyuan Museum of Fine Arts has refined the exhibition by focusing on the innovation and experimentation of various mediums. The competition has been restructured into two main themes: “Painting and Calligraphy Category” (including Ink Art, Eastern Gouache, Calligraphy and Seal Engraving, Oil Painting, Watercolor Painting, and Printmaking) and “Three-dimension and Multi-media Category” (including Plastic Art, Photography and Video Art, and New Media Art), which alternate annually.

This year’s Taoyuan Fine Arts Exhibition centers on the “Painting and Calligraphy Category” and features two new highlights: first, it will be exhibited for the first time at the Taoyuan Arts Center; second, it encourages works with spatial thinking, inviting artists to explore the potential dialogue between two-dimensional works and space, expanding new dimensions of painting and calligraphy. The exhibition will take place from Friday, October 11, 2024, to Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at the Taoyuan Arts Center, showcasing 63 outstanding works that have entered the Secondary Review. The Preliminary Review committee commented, “The standout works in this year’s exhibition demonstrate ideal painting techniques and composition, achieving a certain level of excellence in both technique and thematic conception.” The exhibition will present a wide variety of styles, offering the audience a rich visual feast.

The Taoyuan Fine Arts Exhibition has progressively increased its brand recognition since its reorganization and has grown to become a preeminent art competition in Taiwan. Art lovers from throughout the country responded enthusiastically to this year's call for submissions; 930 entries were received, which is a record since the competition's redesign. The Taoyuan Fine Arts Exhibition will keep fostering creativity in a range of artistic mediums and strengthening its ties to the community's culture.  As the main building of the Taoyuan Museum of Fine Arts nears completion, the exhibition will soon have the opportunity to be presented at a museum scale, further enhancing its professionalism and influence, and contributing to the flourishing development of Taoyuan’s arts and culture.
